We're Minding The Planet!

River, Creek and Stream Assessments, Mangement and Rehabilitation

Staggemeyer Stream 6

River, creek and stream ecosystems are complex associations of microbes, plants, animals and the associated physical interactions with human development and watershed properties. The associated food webs, beginning with plants to the herbivores to carnivores and eventually to the decomposers, are linked by energy and material transfers. It is these dynamic transfers and relationships that make up the “Flowing” ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems can rebound readily from natural disturbances and human activities. However, once an exotic species or a physical change occurs in the watershed, it often times has the ability to rapidly alter the dynamics of the ecosystem. These circumstances have severe impacts on the delicate balance of that ecosystem. Organisms and their environment are inseparably interrelated. They constantly act and react with one another. These lively interactions occur between and within the plant and animal communities as well as the chemical and physical environments of a “Flowing” system. However, with proper planning these problems can be easily prevented. To help in this, Aquatic Engineering offers these services:

A comprehensive approach must be taken for our “rivers, creeks and streams”, anything less is a travesty to the ecosystem. The best approach always takes time and proper planning, if you think you have a problem, do not hesitate, be proactive in your thinking, but react with an ecologically sound plan written by one of our scientists!
